What if we could
understand how sleep
protects health?
I study how the sleeping brain coordinates the
processes that maintain brain and body health.
Sleep and the maintenance of health
Sleep supports coordinated physiological processes across the brain and body, including immune regulation, metabolic control, cardiovascular function and memory consolidation. How these processes are organized during sleep, and how that organization changes with aging and disease, remains a central scientific question.
Sleep across the lifespan
Sleep changes as we age. Understanding which changes accompany healthy aging, and which signal vulnerability, could improve how we recognize and study emerging health risks.
